A ziplock bag of the food your puppy is eating will come with the puppy. We do change foods from time to time so please ask what kind it is if you want to purchase the same thing, If swapping brands, just mix this bag 1/2 what we are feeding and 1/2 what you are switching to, and feed that until gone. Make sure your puppy is eating the kibble you choose. Offer food free choice for the first few days, then you can offer it on a schedule. If your puppy is teacup in size (less than 2 pounds) we will give you specific instructions.
We absolutely LOVE Stella and Chewy chicken dinner biscuits. You can purchase at Chewy. ALL of our puppies love these but they are pricey. So we use them as a treat or as enticement for a puppy that is not eating well. Pick up a bag and use sparingly and it will last you a long time!
I highly recommend NuVet Supplements to your puppy’s daily regimen. No matter what they say, there's only so much nutrition that can be had in a dry kibble. Similar to our human food these days...you just can't get everything you need. NuVet is what we used to bridge that gap in nutrition. We like to use the powder...you just sprinkle it on the food. It's easy to order just follow this link and yoiu can even put it on autoship if you choosel http://www.nuvet.com/38094 OR CALL (1-800-474-7044) and your unique order code 38094
This is a just in case thing…but very important. I will be sending you more info regarding low blood sugar in puppies (hypoglycemia) but for now…please pick up a small bottle of either of the above. I do not intend to send your puppy if I feel there is a risk of low blood sugar. However…despite all efforts…sometimes the stress of leaving home will cause a puppy to not eat…and this can develop into hypoglycemia which is life threatening. I don’t want to scare you or make you nervous about this…because in all likelihood it won’t be an issue. And I won’t send one home if I feel it is at risk. But in the unlikely event that it happens…it’s definitely better to have this on hand just in case…than to be running to the grocery at midnight or for sure a trip to the emergency vet!!!
Any brand will do. Bring some when you come to meet us, or meet the nanny so you will have them for on the way home. In addition, you may want to bring either paper towels and spray or handi-wipes in case of a poo. There is nothing worse than a couple hours in the car with a stinky poo TRUST ME!!! Also bring a plastic bag so you can seal the poo up and not have to smell it the whole way home. Tricks of the trade lol
You need two, one for food and one for water...and low to the ground. Stone ware is more stable puppies tend to step in bowls and knock them over.
We recommend you wait for this to ensure a proper fit once you have the puppy.
We recommend a puppy slicker brush, and NuVet Puppy Shampoo ...you can order here! http://www.nuvet.com/38094.
Variety is the spice of life!!! I recommend lots of different sizes, textures, some that squeak… some that don’t. Soft and fluffy are good for shaking and tugging. Rope, nylon, hard rubber etc. are good for teething. Nylabone puppy wishbones are a favorite
Usually a 24 or 30" crate will work for almost all of our puppies when they grow up. Please note weight limits for the crate you purchase and match to the expected weight of your dog. Wire crates are good for housetraining and if you get one with a divider you can allow it to grow with your dog. The hard plastic ones are better for travel.
